John, Good to see you at A HOUSE DIVIDED. I was in fact thinking of wheelchair-bound Walter Houston in KONGO (1932), where he plays “Dead-legs Flint”. The film was a remake of the silent Tod Browning/Lon Chaney WEST OF ZANZIBAR (1928),which itself was an adaptation of the 1926 Broadway play KONGO, which starred Houston.

Mr. Barta –
Also great to see you. We seem to cross paths at a lot of these things!
West of Zanzibar is a blast, but I’ve never seen the Huston re-make. I’m going to have to find it somewhere.
You can reach me anytime at: atlas@acomics.com – and you might want to check out my Warren William facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Warren-William-Magnificent-Scoundrel-of-Pre-Code-Hollywood/138076432873908#! I’m not sure if you’re aware that I wrote a biography of him that came out last year from McFarland.
We should definitely keep in touch – there are always plenty of old movies to talk about…
Take care –
John
